“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10
Day 3 was full of cleaning and organizing and then a fun cultural thing in the evening. I’m still trying to figure out what day it is as my brain is still messed up from travel. I think today’s Friday??
As I walk around the streets of Os Muinos and the house, I find myself wanting to jump in and serve. There is a very special people group here that I love spending time with and getting to know. We got to witness some Spanish culture (or at least culture where we are) Wednesday night in Muxia. Every year they have a burning ceremony for something, and this year they had a black candle with a face and bloodshot eyes staring at a phone screen. Everyone dresses up, a lot wear black because they are in mourning. Then they carry the thing through the streets of Muxia until they get to the beach where they set it on fire. It was a fun experience and definitely one I will never forget. I got to meet and walk around with one of the ladies in our bible study at the Noble House. Her name is Robin and she is from Colorado. I got to get to know her better, her story, and what brought her to Spain. She moved here because she fell in love with the place (I can see why).
Yesterday morning we held our bible study with 3 other ladies. One thing that I think is really cool is that 2 of them were raised Catholic and still have their Catholic beliefs but they also are so interested in learning about our protestant beliefs. Even though they are Catholic, they still love coming to bible study so that is a seed the Nobles are trying to plant in them. Please be praying for the continued discipleship of the ladies and that their hearts would be softened towards Jesus.
Yesterday was the first day since I’ve been here that it hasn’t rained so the ladies went grocery shopping and got some cafe con leche. We came back and put all the groceries away and it was already time to start dinner. In Spain. kids come home from school to eat with their family, so lunch is normally around 1:30 or 2 when the lunch break starts. Then the younger kids go back to school for a couple of hours. Because lunch is so late, dinner is normally around 8:30 or 9 and it’s either leftovers or something light. Lunch is the main meal of the day here.
Even though we don’t have the rest stop (albergue for pilgrams) open right now, I am still looking for ways to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Serving is one of those ways, and it is something Jesus taught to His disciples. Serving one another is a way of loving one another and loving one another is a way to honor God. When you look back at the Gospel of Jesus, the people He chose to be His disciples were considered His servants. Look at the story of Job and how God addressed him to Satan. God said, “Have you considered my servant Job?” We are called to be servants, and that’s not a dirty word. Am I living a servant life so much that God would say straight to Satan, “Have you considered my servant, Courtney?”
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
Servitude is something that I am working on as it would be so much easier to stay laying on the couch. Knowing that my mission is serving in Spain, God has given me a joy for it. With that joy, I know I’m here for the right reason.
Please continue to pray for the Noble family. I got to have a nice one-on-one Bible study with Carrie, the wife, this morning as we are reading through 1 Peter. Pray for their hearts as they continue to do God’s work in Spain. Pray for their 4 boys as they continue to grow into men of faith.
Blessings,
Courtney
